Very little of a good interior finish happens with a topcoat. Most of it happens in the two days before.
Cracks raked out and filled, blown patches cut back, damaged cornice repaired, and skim coating where a wall has been papered too many times to line again. Paper often comes off to reveal a wall that needs plaster rather than lining, and we would rather tell you that than paper over it.
Prepared, primed where needed, then painted. High Edinburgh ceilings and deep cornice detail are the reason we spray as often as we brush.
Skirtings, facings, doors, shutters and sash and case windows, including the sections that only become reachable once a sash is raised.
Old paper stripped, the wall made good, then lining paper, wallpaper or wide vinyl hung to pattern.
Carcasses, shelves and cabinet fronts, sprayed for a flat modern finish or hand painted where mouldings and older doors call for it.
Edinburgh’s stone tenements and townhouses come with ceiling roses, deep cornice runs and stairwells that need scaffold or towers to reach. We drop and raise ceilings, install new cornice, repair damaged runs and spray the detail so the profile stays crisp rather than clogged with paint.
Stairwells are their own job: high, awkward, and in constant use while the work happens. They get sectioned off and protected properly.

Patterned paper is unforgiving of a poor wall, so the preparation matters more than the hanging. We strip what is there, make good, line where lining is right and skim where it is not, then hang to pattern.
Commercial wide vinyl is a different material and a different technique, and we take that on too.
On a recent townhouse job the family stayed in the house for the full three weeks. Areas were sectioned off, dust sheets were replaced daily rather than shaken out and reused, and the rooms they needed stayed usable.
We also use Farrow & Ball water-based paints where they suit the job. They are low or minimal VOC, child and baby safe, and they wear well in a house that is being lived in.
